about
On a slow and lazy afternoon, in an independent studio on the outskirts of Berlin the project folder of an unfinished ballad was left open by James Birkin. Pinkie B, waking up from the coma of a long night stumbled upon the song. He took a drag from a cigarette, and began miking the drums. After the drums, a bass line was added to the two chord piano riff. By the first signs of the evening, not only was a ballad turned into a low key disco anthem, but an idea had emerged. He took another listen and checked the time, so as not to be too late for the party. Satisfied, he leaned back on his chair, whispered “C’est Off the Hook“, and exhaled for what seemed like a long time.
lyrics
Don’t let me off the hook,
There’s nothing left under my feet,
After all the steps we took,
Down that one way street.
We’ll never lose that beat,
I knew it would take us here,
Don’t let me off the hook,
Cause I am lost if I’m not near
Don’t let me off the hook!
Don’t let me off the hook,
There is more truth left in this.
Though the final chord is struck,
It rings inside the soul of the abyss,
So what’s the use, what’s the fix?
You can’t tell a heart how to heal,
Don’t let me off the hook,
Till I get around how I feel.
Don’t let me off the hook!
Don’t let me off the hook,
There’s nothing left under my feet,
After all the steps we took,
Down that one way street.
Don’t let me off the hook!
